George Korakis is an Associate Professor in Forest Botany in the Department of Forestry and Management of the Environment and Natural Resources at Democritus University of Thrace, and Head of the Laboratory of Forest Botany. His teaching work includes undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of General and Forest Botany, Phyto-sociology, Ornamental Trees and Shrubs, as well as Biodiversity Conservation. He has participated as an invited lecturer in educational undergraduate and postgraduate programs both in Greece and abroad. His work includes a considerable number of published papers in international and national journals, books and proceedings of scientific conferences. Since 1996 he has participated in more than 30 scientific projects and programs either as a scientific coordinator or as a scientific associate. He has collaborated with environmental companies and non-governmental environmental organizations and has more than 25 years of experience in environmental studies on the analysis and evaluation of flora and habitat types in protected areas. He was a regular member and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Management Body of the Dadia National Park in Lefkimi, Soufli. Since August 2020 he has been a founding member of the “Society for the Protection of Biodiversity of Thrace”.
